Dr. Terry Peard has over 45 years experience in public school and university teaching. He holds a B.S. Ed. in Comprehensive Science from Edinboro State College (now Edinboro University of PA) (1964), a Master of Science Teaching (M.S.T.) degree in teaching of biology and chemistry from Cornell University (1969) and a Ph.D. in Science, Mathematics and Environmental Education from Cornell University (1983). Dr. Peard earned teaching certifications in biology, chemistry, general science and physics. As of July 2008, Dr. Peard retired as Professor of Science Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).
During his 20 years at IUP, Dr. Peard’s research was focused in two areas: strategies for improving student learning in science and freshwater jellyfish. After retiring, he continued to teach and supervise science student teachers part-time for Millersville University of Pennsylvania. He has now fully retired from teaching. He continues to serve as a resource for those interested in freshwater jellyfish, to maintain a freshwater jellyfish web site, to review freshwater jellyfish-related research manuscripts and informational articles for the media, and to provide samples and data/information to other freshwater jellyfish researchers, agencies, aquaria and museums throughout the U.S. and foreign countries.
